Class description:This workshop is designed to help build and maintain a strong staff of employees and volunteers by addressing the HR issues small non-profit organizations face every day. The attendees will learn valuable ways to: Find and keep good employees and volunteers, coach and develop managers and employees, recognize and reward employees & volunteers even with a tight budget. The course will also touch on the basics of HR policy and procedures and provide important tools for a small organization such as: Employee Handbook, Volunteer Guidelines & Policies, Documentation for HR practices like hiring, discipline and termination.

Financial Management & Budgeting

Class description: This workshop is designed to give nonprofit staff and board members a practical overview of nonprofit finance.  Learn financial terminology, gain a working knowledge of the nonprofit income statement and balance sheet, walk through the annual budgeting process, and learn to create accurate cash flow projections.

Individual Consulting Appointments: Schedule an individual consulting appointment to have Michael review your agency’s financial documents, provide feedback on the financial summaries you give to your board, and answer any specific questions you may have regarding budgeting.

Calculating True Program Costs

Presenter: Janet Ogden-Brackett, Loan Fund Manager and Trainer, Nonprofits Assistance Fund
Class description: Do you know what your programs cost?  Are you communicating their full costs to others?  This workshop provides an overview of program budgeting and allocations.  Learn to identify direct and indirect expenses, and then review different methods of allocating expenses to programs.  An understanding of true program costs is essential for management decisions, program administration, effective development work, and compliance on your 990.

Creating your Annual Fund Development Plan

Class description:This session will be an opportunity to create an annual fund development plan. Participants will leave having thought through the annual calendar for fundraising activities and donor & constituent communication. This is a working session with an outcome of having created the framework for a fund development work plan for both board and staff.   Since this is a working session, be prepared to bring your fundraising calendar, current fund development plan and  schedule of fundraising events to the training session. Attendance with your Board Chair and Fundraising or Fund Development Committee chair would be highly beneficial.

Managing Conflict at Work
